How Does the Protein Calculator Work?

This Protein Calculator multiplies your body weight in kilograms by a protein factor based on the activity option you choose. It then gives a daily estimate and an approximate per-meal amount.

For general adults, a common reference is about 0.8 g/kg/day. The NIH Office of Dietary Supplements notes that athletes may need roughly 1.2–2.0 g/kg/day depending on training demands.

How Much Protein Do You Need Per Day?

Protein needs vary with body weight, age, health and physical activity. A calculator cannot replace individualized advice from a registered dietitian or clinician.

  • Beans, lentils, chickpeas and peas
  • Tofu, tempeh, edamame and soy foods
  • Nuts and seeds

Protein and Weight Management

Protein-rich foods can be part of a balanced weight-management plan, but total calorie intake, diet quality, movement and long-term habits still matter. More protein is not automatically better for everyone.
